Hello internet people,
It has been way too long since I've posted anything on BN...BUT, I did just renew all of this business for another year, and a (very) few people have said things to me like "what, you don't blog anymore?" and so I shall attempt to be somewhat more active in the days and weeks ahead. Stay tuned, watch this space, etc, etc.

Four books and a movie...
Hey kids:
Haven't had much time for reading--or, clearly, for blogging--lately, what with the holidays and all - but I've got a few new book recommendations to pass on, plus an "OMG if you haven't seen this yet go rent it immediately"movie suggestion. Without further ado:
Books:
First: The Hunger Games trilogy. If you liked Twilight, you should love these. Written for teens (so no panting love scenes) but absolutely addicting. Each of the three books made me cry repeatedly (in a good way) and the heroine, Katniss Everdeen, is simply awesome. They are set in the future. There's a love triangle. And some battles. Go find them here.
Next: Jay-Z's "autobiography", Decoded. "Bed-Stuy was my country, Brooklyn my planet." I put "autobiography" in quotes because -- as many reviewers point out -- the book doesn't really follow a typical chronology. And he leaves a lot of stuff out (Beyonce, who?). But after reading the first 1/3 of this book, I'm convinced this guy is a genius. And while I prefer my rap West Coast-style, there's no denying that Hova can write.
Movie:
Easy-A. A modern retelling of the Scarlet Letter in the tradition of John Hughes. Emma Stone is ah-may-zing. I want to go back 15 (ish) years and be her. You guys already probably saw this in the theatre, but if you didn't, please go rent it ASAP. The only downside to this movie is that I now have the Natasha Bedingfield song "Pocketful of Sunshine" permanently embedded in my brain. Small price to pay...
That's all for now kids. Except for the predictable promise to be better at updating the blog in the future. Which I do. And will.

How to recycle "old" wine...aka, Holiday Booze Recipe #1
Have you ever wondered what to do with that leftover half-bottle of red wine that you opened the night before last? It isn’t totally “off” yet, but you ran out of that special wine spray and so it really is a little past its prime? Want to prevent your husband or significant other from mocking and shaming you for throwing out yet ANOTHER half-bottle of wine?
I have found a solution. Make sangria!!
Fill a pint glass half way with ice
Add 6-8 ounces of above-mentioned day old wine
Add 2 oz of OJ
Add 3-4 oz of Sprite
Stir
Ta-da!! Instant Sangria! And it actually tastes good!
Happy Holidays!

Twinkie diet helps nutrition professor lose 27 pounds...
This is my whole point about dieting...I mean, the Twinkie thing IS extreme, but the basic idea (all that matters, really, is how many calories you consume vs. expend) is the same. It doesn't mean you're gonna be *healthy* -- but you'll weigh less...
